Concealed Holsters for Safety

Concealed holsters are very personal pieces of equipment and its location, and ease of use can quite often be as important as the firearm that is carried in them.  Where you choose to conceal your weapon depends on the working conditions, chance of exposure and size of weapon being carried in concealment.

Shoulder holsters are a common selection and are secured beneath the arm opposite the dominate shooting arm.  Most of the objectives for the shoulder concealed holster are due to the need to wear a jacket or loose clothing over the concealed holster which can be problematic when warm weather prevails.  A should holster requires movement across the body with the weapon which may in some instances involve bringing unintended people into range as the sweep is made.

The ankle holster is one of the best choices for a concealed holster position.  However, the drawback is that when a weapon is carried at ankle level you must reach down to access the weapon and be temporarily out of position for targeting as well as considering the time element for bending down.

The belt holster is probably the primary carry position for law enforcement.  This concealed holster affords quick access, close to body, your weapon size holster available in small and larger sizes and less movement to target.  Smaller weapons may be carried in a pocket sized concealed holster.

Comfort and accessibility are the most important factors when it comes to choosing concealed holsters.  The concealed holster should be able to carry the firearm of your choice safely, easy to draw from and finally not normally visible.

Choosing the Right Tactical Scope

When you are considering the purchase of a tactical scope you need to take into consideration the type of shooting in which you will be involved.  Military and Law Enforcers are the most likely users of the tactical scope for enforcing or defending.  Hunters use the tactical scopes for long distance and short distance game hunting.  Knowing what you intend to use the tactical scope for will aid in determining the right scope:  the range, likely light conditions, caliber, weight and length of the rifle.

Fixed magnification scopes are usually easier for enforcement officers or military to use because they do not need to be adjusted and preference to hands free shooting.  Many technical advances have taken place allowing some enforcers to take advantage of easier to use variable magnification scopes.  Variable magnification scopes are often put to better use with hunters who can take the time to accurately target their prey.

The size and weight of the scope is another consideration when purchasing scopes.  A heavy tactical scope may make handling of your rifle difficult to maneuver or carry when following your quarry.  Check the different scope weight details and choose according to your needs.

Tactical scopes come with a variety of reticles used for focus.  Range finders are also available on some models.  Wind and bullet drop may be factors to consider when you need to do precision shooting with models having bullet drop compensation or ballistic elevation marked.

Uses Of Thermography And Thermal Imagers

Thermal imagers are devices used in the measurement of surface temperatures of practically any conceivable surface. This non contact temperature measurement technology produces relative temperature readings with an accuracy of 99 percent while absolute temperature readings are achieved with an accuracy of 97 percent. This technological breakthrough was achieved after years of research into more efficient ways of coming up with accurate contact temperature readings.

The technology is used by law enforcement to locate criminals and aid in directing enforcers in their duties.  The Thermal Imagers assist firefighters to find lost persons, pinpoint the exact base of the fire and see through thick smoke.  Industry maintenance technicians use thermal imagers to locate power line sections that are prone to failure as well as any joints that may be overheating.  Building construction and structural technicians use thermal imagers signatures to pin point heat leaks in thermal insulation systems that are faulty before carrying out repairs for a more efficient heating and air conditioning system.  Thermal imagers are used in the medical field for a vast array of uses such as in the detection of physiological changes in a human being or animal during the initial stages of clinical diagnostics. So important is the use of IR and thermal imagers in the medical field that it necessitated to have regulatory bodies such as the International Academy of Clinical Thermology and the American Academy of Medical Infrared Imaging.  Other applications of thermal imagery include security surveillance, nondestructive testing, process controls in industry, night vision devices etc. Surface reflections and differing emissivity’s’ present some challenges for thermal imagers.

The Telescopic Truncheon or Enforcement Baton

The telescopic truncheon or baton may be used to attack a person’s assailant by way of striking, jabbing, blocking, aiding and bludgeoning in armlock applications. The telescopic truncheon may be used for offensive purposes, since some law-breakers or criminals use them.  Considering all circumstances, it is actually a good weapon for self-defense and should be permitted use only for home defense but should be kept in a concealed place away from the children.

Compared to a gun, which may be legal when a permit is issued, the mortality rate between the use of a telescopic truncheon is zero compared to those where a handgun is used.  For most people, they might believe that the world is not a safe place anymore and buying self-defense weapons such as this telescopic truncheon might be a great idea. But putting into mind all that it may do, good or bad, whether for defense or offense, one must think twice for the very nature of these weapons for buying the telescopic truncheon, he, himself, might just actually hurt his own or his family. One must weigh the pros and cons of buying a telescopic truncheon, and its legality in one’s jurisdiction. If found that it may be used by ordinary civilians, then, he might as well, train himself in using the weapon for his own safety, as well.

A Veteran's Perspective

As a Viet Nam era military veteran, I have a different perspective about things other than most people. Not because of the time frame that I served in the military but because of what I learned while serving in the military. I have learned and observed from my military background that there are two kinds of people: Servants and those wishing to be served. I have also observed that the servants are in the minority.

Let me continue by explaining that I believe all military personnel, police and fire fighters (just to name a few servants) are the true hero servants of our country. They charge into battle every day, they rush into burning buildings when all others are leaving, our military confronts people every day that would do them harm and have no respect for them or their position. Without regard for personal safety, they lay their lives on the line to protect us. They certainly don’t do it for money. Professional athletes do what they do for money. Our military servants don’t do it for fame. Actors and Politicians do that. Often times they carry on without recognition. They do it because it is inside them!

Thanks today to all of our military Veterans for your service to our country.

Tactical and Optics Suggests: Shooters Ear Protection

It has become very important to those in law enforcement and the military to protect their hearing with the use of shooters ear protection devices.  In days gone by no one even thought about the dangers of loud noises and the resulting hearing loss that we were sustaining without shooters ear protection.  If it was going to be loud someone just hollered hold your ears and open your mouth and that was that for safety.  Even the use of cotton balls, cloths or towels as shooters ear protection only reduces the noise intensity by about 7dB.

When should the enforcer wear shooters ear protection devices:  if you need to shout over the noise to be heard, if there is a ringing in your ears, if the noise causes pain, if the noise is over 90 dB (gun fire) or if you experience hearing loss for several hours after extreme intensity of noise.  Be advised that there is no cure for hearing loss from intense noise without shooters ear protection once it has happened.  Many different instances can arise in the field of tactical and law enforcement that would require you to have on hand shooters ear protection.  A noise does not have to be repetitive to do damage if you choose not to wear shooters ear protection, a sound of enough intensity can cause hearing loss.

Tactical and Optics Encourages Knife Training

My daughter recently announced that she needed a knife for protection.  She works around criminal prisoners from a local jail facility who often come on her company’s property.

My first response was,  “do you know how to use a knife?”  I explained to her that the very person she would be trying to defend herself against would probably be unarmed.  That means that the prisoner would be bent on taking her knife away from her.  Which in turn would leave her wide open for being the one wounded, disfigured, disabled or even killed with her own knife  The best suggestion, for anyone wanting to protect them self with a knife, would be to learn how to use a knife.  A pretty pink knife from Gerber Knives or K Bar Knives won’t do any good; if you are not the one holding the knife or with the knowledge of how to use the knife.

Cold Steel makes an excellent video on how to protect your self from an assailant with a knife.  A long range knife technique is employed throughout the video using rhythm, footing steps, timing the opponents strikes as well as yours, speed in response as well as evasion, all delivered via superior tactics and strategy.    Watching this three-part knife training video might just be the thing that saves your life one day.  The knowledge gained from watching this knife training can well equip you to protect your loved ones or even your self.

Tactical and Optics Flash Light

As a child didn’t you always want to get your hands on a flash light.  It didn’t even have to be a very good one.  It was fun to get under the covers and turn it on and just look at the light.  You really didn’t have to be looking at anything.  Then you would let your imagination run wild and enter the world of pretend. Whenever anyone wanted to know what to get a hard to buy for child something for Christmas, I always remarked, “you can’t go wrong with a flash light”.  Later on in life, you noticed the great flash lights carried by Scully and Moulder on the Xfiles.  They had the best distance and intensity of any flash light seen before, and I think in every episode they used these flash lights.

Now as a grown up enforcer, whether it be with law enforcement, military, special ops, etc. you now rely on having a really good flash light.  You look for different things available on your flash light.  How many batteries?   What kind of batteries do I need? How long will your flash light provide light?  How heavy is the flash light?  Is the flash light waterproof?   Can I attach flashers to my flash light when emergency lighting is needed?  Is the flash light rechargeable?  Can I get headlamps instead of carrying a flash light?  All of these questions can be answered on our website under the different flash lights descriptions.  We strive to maintain a selection of flash lights based on your individual needs.  You never know when your life can depend on having just the right flash light.

Officer's Duty Belt

In the high pace and advancement of today, it is difficult to know where to find good equipment at a great price. Often times I am in the position of upgrading or wanting not to be behind times when it comes to the equipment I wear on my duty belt such as handcuffs, holsters and my flashlight. I am always seeing guys with the new equipment and often times am looking for a good outlet for me to be able to find this equipment at a fair price. Whether it is a new set of handcuffs, new flashlight or a new knife, I always know an easy place to find it. With the schedule that I keep it is tough to always make it in to the stores. I have found a place online that can meet all of my needs for equipment day and night. They are always open for business online. Tactical and Optics is a great place to find all you need for everyday police work.
