Choosing a Compact Binocular

The best compact binoculars are precision instruments that require a lot of very good technology. The ones made by world-famous makers like Zeiss, Swarovski and Leica can be quite expensive. Sizes of compact binoculars are determined by the magnification that they give and the size of the objective lenses. So a 10X25 will be one that gives a magnification of 10 and has an eyepiece of 25 mm. Most compact binoculars have small exit pupils and are therefore difficult to use for long period of times. When you choose a compact binocular you will have to decide the main purpose for which you want to use it. If the maximum use is for indoor activities where lighting conditions may not be very good, you need to go in for models that have very high levels of glass and lens coatings. Even the tiny prisms that are used in these binoculars need to be made very precisely so that you get the correct optical conversions. The compactness of the binocular is another aspect that can govern any buying decision. This will largely depend on the use and the frequency of usage. For outdoor activities like bird watching you may need one that is really compact, so that you can pocket it and move around to the next location easily.

Whatever the usage, a compact binocular can make for a fine addition to the recreational activities of most persons, and is one that can find a lot of use for all members of a family.
