Some of the special police gear equipment needed
that should be considered for an officer to have on hand would be cutters like
the jaws of life, hydraulic equipment for those trapped, equipment to break
down doors, riot control shields, gas masks, first aid kits, bullhorns for
public address situations, high pressure water cannons or even police horses
when a patrol car won’t work. The
specialized items are not needed all of the time, but when the situation
demands to perform certain duties these various police gear equipment needs to
be available for ready use. Many of the
patrol cars are now equipped with modern technology police gear such as
sophisticated computers on the console, built in radar guns, infrared night
vision binoculars, emergency lighting and state of the art radio communication
devices.
Certain basic gear must be in use by police
personnel and a wide range of accompanying police gear equipment allows each
officer to perform. One of the most
prominent pieces of equipment is the policeman’s handgun. A policeman could not perform his duties
without having the necessary police gear equipment in the form of a weapon to
use for his safety and the safety of others.
The type of gun carried by the officer is usually a matter of
preferences and limitations set out by the police force. Another piece of equipment, often carried on
the duty belt in a specially designed pouch is the handcuffs for apprehending
suspects and restraining them safely.
Tasers are becoming widely used as a means of restraint in neutralizing
suspects or violent offenders which will subdue them. Standard issue to law enforcement is the use of the bullet proof
vest that is worn by enforcers whose job puts them in the line of danger. There are other items like flashlights,
batons, radios, evidence handling gloves, and knives that all have become
standard issue and are often carried on the duty belt worn by law enforcement
officers. These duty belts allow for
the police gear equipment to be carried easily, be readily available, and allow
hands free ranges for total protection of offenders.
